Karen de Wet has been teaching in information science, multimedia theory and digital texts at the University of Pretoria's Department of Information Science since 1998. She is interested in developments because of digital media - including cultural impact, organisation, availability, accessibility and management of digital texts. This interest lead to research being done regarding digital libraries, portals and intranets - taking principles and practices of knowledge management into account.

e-Publishing and Afrikaans Poetry: Why is the Advantages of Available Technology Slow to be Embraced in the Developing World

This paper reflects on how available digital technology, developments in e-publications and the possibilities offered by e-publishing are not being optimally used in a developing country and a small language – despite the fact that both these should be benefiting from current trends and developments in the e-world. The current growth in Afrikaans poetry, and the existing publishing opportunities available to it, are discussed.
